About this Experience
What you'll do:
You and your group will sit down at the mahjong table in Après Mahjong's Old Town Park City parlor or your own rental and learn American Mahjong from scratch in two hours.
Tile introduction – You'll get hands-on with the full set of mahjong tiles, learning each piece by name and function before a single game begins.
The Charleston – Your instructor walks you through this essential pre-game tile-passing ritual so your whole group is ready to play from the first round.
Reading the NML card – You'll learn how to use the official National Mahjong League card, the key to understanding which hands you can win with.
Full practice game – Once the basics land, you play a real game with your instructor guiding each round, answering questions, and keeping the energy up.
Skill wrap-up – Before you leave, your instructor recaps what you learned so everyone walks out knowing how to play on their own.
By the end of the session, your whole group will have a real, playable foundation in American Mahjong tiles, strategy, and all. It's a genuinely social activity that works just as well for a bachelorette weekend as it does for a group of friends who've been curious about the game for years.
Why we love it for your party:
Beginner-friendly format – No experience needed; the lesson is designed so first-timers feel confident within minutes, not overwhelmed.
Private session – Your group has the full attention of a dedicated instructor, so the pace fits your crowd.
Flexible location – Works at the Après parlor in Old Town Park City or brought to your vacation rental or private venue.
Group sizes from 4 to 50 – Whether you're a small crew or a large bachelorette party, the experience scales without losing the personal feel.
Built-in social energy – Mahjong is naturally loud, competitive, and fun, no icebreakers needed.
