What you'll do:

In this knifesmithing workshop, you'll transform a piece of rebar into a custom knife using traditional techniques like heating, hammering, and grinding. The process begins by shaping the steel in a propane forge, followed by refining the blade with a grinder and forming its cutting edge. You'll then harden the blade by quenching it in oil, creating a dramatic "Forged in Fire" moment. After a break with pizza, you'll finish the knife by adding a handle and sharpening it to perfection. By the end, you’ll have a unique, handcrafted knife and a newfound appreciation for the craft.

About this experience partner:

Since our opening in 2015, our workshops at Craftsman Ave have focused on teaching the skills needed to make some pretty cool masterpieces. We offer classes on knife making, woodworking, welding, leather-working, and stained glass. Workshops are approximately 4 hours long, and are taught by experienced makers that live and thrive in Brooklyn. We limit the number of guests to ensure everyone gets personalized attention from our instructors. Each class is designed for beginners or experienced artisans alike, no prior experience is necessary.
