Question 1

What should I wear for rafting?

Accepted Answer

- Athletic shoes that are lace-up or cinch-up
- Swimsuit
- Quick drying shorts to wear over swimsuit for more comfort
- Thin long-sleeve shirt and pants made out of athletic materials for additional sun protection and/or extra layering
- In spring, at higher flows, or in inclement weather, wetsuits may be needed and will be provided.

Question 2

How many people fit in a raft?

Accepted Answer

On the Middle Fork American River we use rafts that typically hold 6 guests, plus the guide. Larger groups are split into separate rafts, but stay close together during the entire trip.

Question 3

Can I bring alcohol on the raft?

Accepted Answer

We know you’re here to celebrate—but for safety reasons, alcohol isn’t allowed on the river. That said, if you're joining a Middle Fork overnight trip, you're welcome to bring alcohol (in moderation) to enjoy at camp in the evening.

Question 4

Can I bring my phone or camera on the raft?

Accepted Answer

We get it—you’ll want to capture the fun. But the fact is, water and rapids don’t mix well with screens.  Waterproof cameras and GoPros are welcome, just know they’re brought at your own risk. A strap to secure them is a smart move!  The good news? On the Middle Fork, a professional photo company (not affiliated with us) captures shots of the action, and photos are available for purchase—so your crew’s epic moments won’t go undocumented.
