Isla Contoy, barely touched by humankind, is located 32 km from Isla Mujeres and 50 km south of Cancun. It is one of Mexico's 67 protected National Parks and the most critical bird sanctuary in the Mexican Caribbean. In addition, its mangroves have been designated as Wetlands of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention.
In the south of the island, between the warm waters of the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, we can find Ixlaché Reef. This reef is part of the largest barrier reef in Latin America and the second-largest in the world.
It is famous for being a practically intact ecosystem that protects birds, reptiles, fish, and marine fauna, including various endangered turtle species.
