Bay State Bam exclusively teaches American Mahjong according to the rules of the National Mah Jongg League, inc. This is the framework for most social play of Mahjong, and we include options for fun house rules!

Do I need to know anything about Mahjong to get started?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely not! Bay State Bam prides itself on being an inclusive, welcoming place for anyone to learn Mahjong. No prior experience is necessary!

Do I need to provide anything for the event?

Accepted Answer

Bay State Bam will provide anything that is needed. Your instructor will contact you directly ahead of the event to discuss timeline and expectations, and we will go over the space where the event will take place. Card tables and chairs can be added on as a part of the experience if necessary.

Can my Mahjong class be combined with another activity?

Accepted Answer

Depending on your time availability, absolutely! Mahjong 101 classes generally take between 2.5-3 hours for new players. If your event/location allows, we can work with other vendors to provide additional experiences as a part of the party. A popular addition is a craft component during/with the lesson!
