About this Experience

What you'll do:

Experience one of the most scenic and relaxing kayak adventures near Las Vegas as you paddle the crystal-clear waters of the Colorado River through the breathtaking Black Canyon.

Your adventure begins at Willow Beach, Arizona, where you'll meet your guide and receive a brief paddling and safety orientation. Once on the water, you'll kayak through a stunning stretch of the Colorado River surrounded by towering canyon walls, volcanic rock formations, and incredible desert scenery.

Along the way, your guide will share fascinating stories about the area's history, geology, wildlife, and the construction of Hoover Dam. Keep an eye out for desert bighorn sheep, bald eagles, osprey, great blue herons, and other wildlife that call Black Canyon home.

The highlight of the tour is a visit to the famous Emerald Cave, a small canyon grotto where sunlight reflects off the river to create a brilliant emerald-green glow. Guests will have the opportunity to paddle into the cave for photos and enjoy one of the most photographed locations on the Colorado River.

This beginner-friendly tour covers approximately 4 miles round trip at a relaxed pace with plenty of opportunities to take photos, learn about the area, and soak in the beauty of this unique desert oasis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need kayaking experience?

Not at all! Our Emerald Cave Express Tour is beginner-friendly and designed for first-time paddlers. Your guide will provide a safety briefing and paddling instruction before launching.

Is this a good activity for bachelor and bachelorette parties?

Absolutely! Emerald Cave is one of the most unique group activities near Las Vegas. It's the perfect way to mix adventure, sightseeing, and quality time with your crew away from the crowds of the Strip.

Is there a weight limit?

Yes: our single kayaks are under 240 lbs. capacity and our 2-seater tandem kayaks can support under 550lbs. We always recommend a tandem kayak if you are questioning comfort because the openings (cockpits) are a little larger. Our singles are more streamlined and are more "tippy."

How far is Willow Beach from Las Vegas?

Willow Beach is approximately 60 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. Optional roundtrip transportation is available from select Las Vegas hotels.

What should I wear?

We recommend lightweight, quick-dry clothing, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and water-friendly shoes or sandals. A phone or camera is great for photos, and a swimsuit is recommended if you plan to swim. For comfort on the river, avoid cotton, denim, and flip-flops. During cooler months, dressing in layers is recommended.

Will I get wet?

Most guests get a little wet while entering or exiting their kayak. During warmer months, many guests enjoy splashing each other and cooling off in the river.

Is it too hot to kayak during the summer?

Not at all! In fact, kayaking the Colorado River through the Black Canyon is one of the best outdoor activities to enjoy during the Summer months in Southern Nevada. The Black Canyon walls also provide stretches of shade throughout the day. Morning departures are typically the coolest and most comfortable time to paddle during the summer, but thanks to the cool river water and scenic canyon environment, many guests are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the experience feels—even on warmer days. Our guides closely monitor weather and river conditions to help ensure a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Are photos included?

Yes, our guides will take photos of your group through out your kayaking experience and send you a photo link within 24 hours after your tour ends.

Can I take Uber, Lyft, or another ride-share service to my tour?

No. Ride-share services should not be used for tours that depart from Willow Beach Marina. Willow Beach is located in a remote area with little to no reliable cell phone reception, which means you will likely be unable to request a return Uber, Lyft, or taxi after your tour. Guests participating in a tour launch at Willow Beach should either: - Drive their own vehicle - Rent a vehicle - Purchase our optional Las Vegas hotel shuttle service (available on select tours)

Can we book a private tour?

Yes! Private tours are available for bachelor parties, bachelorette parties, birthdays, corporate groups, and other special occasions. Contact us for details at 702-259-5292

Can we bring drinks?

Water, juice, and snacks are provided. For safety reasons and National Park Service regulations, alcohol is not permitted during the tour
