About this Experience

What You'll Do

You and your group will spend two hands-on hours at Clay By The Bay's 10,000 sq. ft. waterfront studio, throwing clay on the pottery wheel with panoramic views of the SF Bay as your backdrop, guided start to finish by an instructor who makes sure everyone leaves with a real piece they actually made.

  • Center your clay – Your instructor walks you through the fundamentals of pottery wheel throwing, so even first-timers get a real feel for the wheel within the first few minutes.

  • Shape your piece – Pull up the walls and form your creation. Mugs, bowls, and vases are all fair game; the clay does what your hands tell it to (eventually).

  • Get hands-on with group challenges – Compare shapes, laugh at the wonky ones, and cheer each other on as your group discovers just how satisfying and humbling a pottery wheel can be.

  • Hand your piece to the kiln team – At the end of the session, the studio fires and glazes your work; you'll pick it up or receive it shipped 4–6 weeks later as a permanent keepsake.

  • Take in the view – All of this happens with Golden Gate Bridge and SF Bay visible through the studio windows, a detail that makes even the clay-covered moments feel cinematic.

Two hours move fast here. By the time your group figures out how the wheel works, you're already finishing your piece, and everyone walks away with clay on their hands and something to talk about for weeks.

Why We Love It for Your Group

  • No experience needed – Instruction is built into the session, so nobody in your group feels left out or behind, whether it's their first time or their tenth. Instructors meet everyone where they are.

  • Scales from 5 to 50 people – Whether you're planning an intimate birthday dinner group or a full team offsite, Clay By The Bay has the space and staffing to run it properly.

  • BYOB-friendly for private groups – Wine and beer are welcome at private sessions, so you can sip while you spin a detail that turns a class into a proper event.

  • Everything is included – Clay, tools, aprons, firing, and glazing are all covered; your group shows up and does the fun part, while the studio handles the rest.

  • Waterfront SF location – The studio sits right on the bay at 747 Beach St, easy to get to, genuinely impressive to arrive at, and a natural icebreaker before the session even starts.
