Experience Level: No experience required. This VIP-style surf lesson is perfect for first-time surfers and beginner-level riders looking for a fun and memorable ocean experience. Expert instructors guide your group every step of the way while our professional surf photography package captures your best wave moments. All participants must be able to swim.
What’s Included: Surfboards and rashguards are provided for all participants so your group can focus on enjoying the waves. Our professional surf photography package is also included, capturing action shots and memorable moments throughout your session. Wetsuits are available for rent if needed (depending on water temperature and personal comfort) for $9 per person/lesson.
Duration & Group Size: Group lessons last 1 hour and 30 minutes and are designed for celebrations, parties, and crews looking for a memorable shared surf experience. The session offers plenty of time for instruction, wave riding, and capturing epic photos in the water.
What to Bring: Swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, water, and beach-ready energy.
Location: Lessons take place at La Jolla Shores, San Diego’s most beginner-friendly surf beach, known for its gentle waves and beautiful coastal setting. Parking, restrooms, and picnic areas are available at the beach.
Booking & Availability: Advance booking is required! Group Surf Lessons require a minimum of 4 students and are offered Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM.
Weather & Conditions: Lessons run in most conditions but may be rescheduled if ocean safety requires it.
Additional Notes: Instructor gratuity is not included but is always appreciated. Potential travel fees are not included.

What happens at check-in?
At check-in at the Surf Diva Surf Shop, we make sure that each surfer is accounted for. You will receive your rashguard. You can rent a wetsuit for $9/lesson/person, if needed. Enjoy 20% off at the surf shop on the day of your lesson! It's a 5-7 minute walk on the beach to get to your lesson spot!
Where and when do we check in for our surf lesson experience in San Diego?
Check in is at least 30 minutes prior to your surf lesson experience start time at the award-winning Surf Diva Surf Shop on 2160 Avenida de la Playa, La Jolla CA 92037. You also receive a 20% discount at the shop as a student on the day of your lesson experience. The shop has a selection of all beach necessities in case you forgot anything at home, such as beach towels, bathing suits, boardshorts, sunscreen, hair ties, hats, phone cases etc.
How does getting to and from the beach work?
La Jolla Shores is best reached by car. There is a parking lot at the beach and street parking (some restrictions apply; please check the signs before parking your car). In the summer, parking can be challenging, especially on the weekends. Please allow at least 30 minutes for parking. If you are using a ride-share service, this does not apply. Please have them drop you off 30 minutes prior to the start time of your lesson at 2160 Avenida de la Playa, La Jolla CA 92037. You will be able to walk to the beach from the shop.
How soon do we need to register?
We recommend signing up ASAP. Our surf lesson slots will sell out. All bookings are first-come first "surf".
What is the Surf Diva Cancellation Policy?
Cancellations or changes need to be made at least 72 hours prior to the lesson. Any cancellations or changes made 24 to 72 hours prior to the lesson receive a $25 reprocessing fee. Cancellations or no shows made 24 hours prior will not receive a refund or a credit.
