About this Experience

What you'll do:

Six friends pick up palette knives instead of paintbrushes and spend two hours building a massive three-panel abstract painting that the bride keeps forever.

  • The format: Your group collaborates on a triptych — three 30" x 40" canvases that connect into one finished piece, so everyone contributes their own section to a single, cohesive work.

  • The materials: You'll work with paint, modeling paste, and sand, using palette knives and combs to build bold texture and real visual weight, not flat brushstrokes.

  • The guidance: Your host structures the session clearly enough that the piece comes together, but loosely enough that the group's personality shows up in the final result.

  • The setting: The class takes place on a private front porch in North Park, a neighborhood known for its creative energy, with charcuterie and wine included.

  • The takeaway: Three large canvases that connect into one finished piece, ready to hang in the bride's home as a permanent reminder of who made it with her.

No prior art experience needed, and yes, you will probably get a little paint on you.

Why you'll love it for your bachelorette:

  • Actually original: This is a bachelorette painting class, not a paint-and-sip — the format, scale, and result are genuinely different from what most groups have done before.

  • Something to show for it: The bride leaves with a large-scale, gallery-worthy piece made by her closest people, not a souvenir that ends up in a drawer.

  • Low pressure, high engagement: The structured process means no one stares at a blank canvas; everyone is moving, mixing, and adding to the piece within minutes.

  • Built for the group: Each canvas section gives individuals ownership over their contribution while the triptych format keeps the whole piece connected and intentional.

  • Easy to plan: The two-hour format, set location, and included snacks and wine mean the organizer has very little to coordinate beyond showing up.

About this experience partner:

Big Art Ventures is run by a San Diego-based artist and workshop facilitator who has spent years helping groups of all skill levels create large-scale abstract art together. The sessions take place on a private North Park porch that has become a regular gathering spot for bachelorette groups, friend circles, and first-time painters who swear they have no creative ability. The host is known for keeping sessions relaxed and structured at the same time, a combination that lets groups produce work they are genuinely proud of.

Additional information:

  • All participants must be 21 or older to attend.

  • 3 finished canvases (each 30" x 40") go home with the bride; plan for car transport given the size.

  • Groups flying into San Diego should ask about the Coastal Collage experience, which produces smaller artwork sized for a suitcase or shipping.

  • Up to 6 guests per session at the partner's North Park location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need any art experience?

Not at all. The experience is designed for complete beginners, and I guide the group through the entire process so everyone can contribute and have fun.

What exactly are we making?

Your group will collaborate on one large, three-panel piece of art that the bride gets to keep after the paint has fully dried.

What kind of art will we create?

The artwork is abstract, highly textured, and designed to feel modern, oversized, and visually dramatic. I’ll help guide the group toward imagery and color palettes that work beautifully in the large format.

Can we choose our own colors or theme?

Yes — within reason. I’ll help curate options that fit your group’s vibe while still ensuring the final piece looks cohesive and elevated.

What should we wear?

Definitely wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on. This is a hands-on, textured art experience and things can get messy in the best possible way.

Can we take the artwork with us after the experience?

Because of the textured materials used, the artwork will need about a day to dry. I’m happy to hold it here until it fully dries, and you can pick it up at the end of your weekend.

Is this a good experience for groups flying into San Diego?

This experience is especially ideal for groups who are driving, since the finished artwork is oversized. If your group is flying in and looking for something easier to travel with, check out my smaller, mixed-media SoCal collage experience instead.

Is this experience similar to a paint-and-sip?

Absolutely not, lol! This experience is definitely more collaborative and elevated than a typical paint-and-sip. We use oversized canvases, texture, layering, and guided techniques designed to create a dramatic finished piece. You'll have fun making it, but NO ONE will laugh at the end result. :)

How many people can participate?

The experience is designed for up to six guests collaborating together on one large three-panel artwork.

Will there be food or drinks?

Of course! No one can create while hangry. There will be wine, soft drinks and meat-free charcuterie with some sweets, cheese, crackers and fruit.

How does pricing work?

The fee of $500 covers the entire private group experience for up to six guests, making it easy for friends to split the cost while creating one large collaborative piece together. A non-refundable deposit of $100 holds your spot, with the $400 balance due 48 hours before the party.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Venmo or credit card.

How do we book?

Email me from the 'contact us' page of BigArtVentures.com, or directly at cristinespan@gmail.com. (Note: no 'h' in my first name.) Let me know what additional questions you may have and when you'd like to schedule the party and we'll go from there.
