About this Experience

What you'll do:

Spend a creative afternoon on a covered porch in trendy North Park, San Diego, creating a modern, coastal-inspired, mixed media collage diptych — two 12” x 12” canvases designed to hang together as one piece.

Using a curated collection of Southern California imagery, textured surfaces, handmade papers, botanicals, paint, and other mixed-media materials, you’ll create artwork that feels personal, elevated, and uniquely yours.

This is not a paint-and-sip. It’s a relaxed, small-group creative experience designed for people who want to enjoy good friends, good music and good food/drink as they make something beautiful.

What You’ll Make

    •    Two 12” x 12” gallery-depth canvases (a diptych)

    •    A finished piece that’s easy to transport and display

    •    Artwork inspired by the colors, textures, and atmosphere of coastal Southern California

Why we love it for your party:

  • Create something physical (and beautiful) to commemorate the time you spend together in San Diego

  • Easy to take back home on a plane

  • The guided experience and curated materials guarantee a successful result, no art experience required.

About this experience partner:

After years of teaching large-format abstract painting workshops, I wanted to try something new: smaller scale, more portable, just as meaningful. The Coastal Collage Workshop combines my love of texture, color, and design with what I enjoy most—bringing people together to create, connect, and share an experience.

My goal is to provide a welcoming space where friends can slow down, get creative, and leave with artwork they’re genuinely proud to take home, no experience needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly will we make?

Each guest creates a pair of coordinating 12" x 12" canvases called a diptych. When displayed side-by-side, they form one larger, cohesive artwork that's inspired by the colors, textures, and vibe of coastal Southern California.

What's a diptych?

A diptych is simply two separate canvases designed to work together as one piece of art. Think of it as a modern, gallery-style artwork that can be displayed together or separately.

Do I need any art experience?

Not at all. This experience was designed specifically for beginners. I'll guide you through the process step-by-step, and the materials and techniques are intentionally chosen so everyone leaves with something beautiful and uniquely their own.

What materials will we work with?

We'll use paint, sand, coastal imagery, natural elements in a variety of mixed-media techniques to create layered, modern artwork with plenty of texture and personality.

Will everyone's artwork look the same?

Definitely not. Everyone starts with the same foundation, but each guest chooses their own imagery, composition, colors, and finishing touches. The result is a collection of completely different pieces that reflect each person's style.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting a little paint on.

Do you provide food and drinks?

Yes! Light refreshments and drinks are included so you can relax, create, and enjoy time together.

How long is the experience?

Approximately two and a half hours, giving everyone plenty of time to create without feeling rushed.

Can we take our artwork home?

Yes. The canvases are 12" x 12", and travel-friendly, making them easy to pack in a car or suitcase, or ship (if you've done too much shopping already).

Where does the experience take place?

On my covered North Park porch studio, a relaxed outdoor creative space designed for conversation, connection, and making art. North Park is loaded with fun bars, shops and restaurants, all within walking distance of the porch, so you can make a day of it.

Is this more of an art class or a social experience?

It's both. You'll learn some simple mixed-media techniques, but the real focus is spending time together, creating something beautiful, and making memories with your group.
