About this Experience

What you'll do:

You and up to five friends get a fully private sailing charter to Power Island on Lake Michigan, one of Traverse City's most sought-after summer experiences. The island is only reachable by boat, so your group arrives somewhere most visitors never get to go.

  • Set sail on Grand Traverse Bay - Board BAYLIFE, a Catalina 34MKII sailboat with a wide open cockpit, and head out across Lake Michigan toward Power Island with your private captain at the helm.

  • Anchor at Power Island - Step off into calm, clear water for swimming, or take the dinghy ashore to hike the island's trails and explore beaches that are only accessible by boat.

  • Paddle and float at your own pace - Use the standup paddleboards and floating chairs while anchored, or just relax on deck and let the afternoon stretch out however your group wants it.

  • Eat and drink your way - Bring whatever food and beverages your group loves. The boat has a full galley below deck with a kitchen, so you can keep things cold and spread out properly.

  • Customize the route - Work with your captain to shape the day: all sailing, more swimming, more island time. The five hours are yours to use however it fits your group best.

Whether you spend the afternoon anchored at the island or sailing open water with drinks in hand, this is the kind of day that becomes the story your group keeps telling.

Why we love it for your party:

  • Fully private boat - Your group of up to 6 is the only booking on the boat, so you're never sharing the experience with strangers.

  • Power Island access - The island has no public ferry or road access. You get there by sailboat, which makes it an automatic highlight of the trip.

  • Everything you need on board - Towels, coolers, ice, plates, glasses, and utensils are all provided so you can focus on the day rather than the logistics.

  • Onboard facilities - The lower cabin has changing rooms, a kitchen, and a private restroom with an electric flush toilet, so the five-hour stay is comfortable.

  • Easy, stress-free boarding - Parking is directly at the boat with free parking passes included, so the experience starts the moment you arrive.
