Frequently Asked Questions for Lippan Clay & Mirror Art Party for Bachelorettes & Birthdays: A Sparkly Twist on Pottery

Question 1

What is Lippan Art?

Accepted Answer

Lippan art, also called mud and mirror work, is a traditional craft from the Kutch region of Gujarat, India. Artisans once shaped designs from mud and natural materials onto the walls of their homes and set small mirrors into them. In homes without electricity, those mirrors caught the glow of oil lamps and filled the room with light. Today, we use modern materials so you can create your own piece and take it home.

Question 2

What do we make?

Accepted Answer

A Lippan mud-mirror keepsake you create your own piece — pick from design ideas like a family tree, a cozy home, or a big-heart/little-heart pair, or bring your own idea. Boards are prepared and patterns traced; you do the relief work and mirror placement with our step-by-step guidance.

Question 3

Is this like a pottery class?

Accepted Answer

It has the same hands-on, sculpting feel, but there’s no wheel or kiln. You shape clay by hand and set real mirrors into your design for a piece that catches the light.

Question 4

Can we make candles?

Accepted Answer

We offer something more unique: decorate your own Lippan mirror-work candle holder as an add-on.” This keeps the keyword without promising candle-making.

Question 5

Do we need any experience?

Accepted Answer

None at all. We guide you through every step, and all materials are included.

Some more detailed designs need a short return visit to complete. If yours does, we’ll let you know when you book, and you’ll pick both dates upfront. Return sessions are $10 extra. Standard pieces are 10 inches, but if you’d like a different size or a custom design, just let us know when you request your quote so we can prepare the right materials. Pricing may vary.
