Japanese Decorative Sushi Roll Class NYC - Learn Kazari Maki-Zushi

About this Experience

What you'll do:

Spend a creative afternoon learning Kazari Maki-Zushi, the Japanese art of patterned and decorative sushi rolls, at RESOBOX in the East Village. In this hands-on class, you’ll discover how Kazari Maki-Zushi uses natural ingredient colors and careful layering to create playful designs inside sushi—think “building with Legos,” but edible. Your instructor will guide you step by step as you assemble and roll two themed designs (for this session, Pikachu and a Poké Ball), then slice your rolls to reveal the finished patterns. No prior sushi experience is needed, and you’ll leave with new skills you can recreate for parties, potlucks, and special occasions.

Why we love it for your party:

  • Decorative Kazari Maki-Zushi technique (a rare sushi style that turns your celebration into an edible art experience)

  • Beginner-friendly, guided instruction (the process looks impressive but is taught in a simple, approachable way for all levels)

  • Pikachu and Poké Ball themed rolls (a fun, high-impact design that’s especially great for playful groups and photo moments)

  • All materials included (your group just shows up—ingredients and supplies are provided)

  • Perfect for social celebrations (decorative sushi is meant to be shared, admired, and enjoyed together)
