Japanese Knot Art Class in NYC - Mizuhiki Jewelry Making

About this Experience

What you'll do:

Discover Mizuhiki, the elegant Japanese art of decorative knotting using thin cords made from twisted washi paper. In this hands-on class at RESOBOX in New York City, you’ll learn the cultural history of Mizuhiki, traditionally used to adorn celebratory and condolence gifts and New Year decorations, and see how it has evolved into modern accessories and design. Your instructor will guide you through a foundational Mizuhiki knot, then you’ll choose your favorite cord colors and create your own pair of earrings. The process is soothing and surprisingly meditative, and you’ll leave with beautiful wearable art plus the know-how to keep practicing at home.

Why we love it for your party:

  • Japanese decorative knot jewelry (a unique cultural craft that feels special and elevated for a group outing)

  • Choose-your-own color designs (everyone personalizes their earrings, so no two pieces turn out the same)

  • Guided, beginner-friendly instruction (the core knot is taught step by step, making it easy to follow even if you’ve never crafted before)

  • Relaxing, mindful making time (the knotting rhythm is calm and satisfying, great for bonding and unwinding together)

  • Take-home earrings (each guest leaves with a finished pair to wear or gift)
