Ikebana Floral Design Class - Create a Japanese Flower Arrangement

About this Experience

What you'll do:

Learn Ikebana, one of Japan’s most traditional floral art forms, in a calm, hands-on evening class in New York City. Guided by HANADOJO, you’ll practice the Ohara school style of Ikebana, focusing on core techniques like line, balance, harmony, and “nature appreciation.” Each session is a small-group, in-person experience designed for all levels, including first-time beginners and returning students. You’ll create your own seasonal arrangement using fresh flowers provided in class, then leave with the flowers you worked with so you can enjoy your piece at home.

Why we love it for your party:

  • Authentic Ohara-style Ikebana (your group learns a respected, world-renowned Japanese flower arranging tradition in a true cultural setting)

  • Beginner-friendly small group format (welcoming instruction that makes it easy for everyone to participate, even with zero experience)

  • All materials included (flowers and tools like kenzan, plate, scissors, wire, and floral supplies are provided, so guests just show up ready to create)

  • Take-home floral keepsake (each guest leaves with the flowers from their arrangement to display and enjoy afterward)

  • Mindful, elevated celebration (a peaceful, artistic activity that feels special for birthdays, bachelorettes, team events, or any gathering)

About this experience partner:

HANADOJO is led by Asae Takahashi, a certified Ohara School of Ikebana instructor who has taught Japanese cultural arts for years. Her classes combine traditional technique with thoughtful explanations of Ikebana philosophy, creating a warm, supportive environment for students of any age or background. Asae also delivers demonstrations and workshops across events and venues, bringing an authentic, high-quality Ikebana experience to every class
