Deep in the Jungle Outside Tulum, a Cenote Ceremony Copalli Built From the Ground Up

Started With Private Chef Dinners, Grew Into Something Bigger

Copalli opened in 2019 with one idea: put a private chef in a beautiful villa and give guests something extraordinary to eat. That was the whole business at first. But the people running it were spending their days in Tulum, Playa del Carmen and Cancun, finding hidden cenotes at dawn, watching the sunsets over the Caribbean, feeling the pull of the sacred ruins nearby, and they realized the food was never going to be the only reason people fell for this place. So Copalli expanded past the dinner table into sunrise proposals, quinceaneras, cultural adventures through jungle and sea, and ceremonies exactly like this one. They still call themselves relationship builders more than a booking platform. Every chef, guide and venue in their network is someone they know personally, which is the difference between your group getting handled by a checklist and getting cared for the way locals treat family visiting their own home.

A Cacao Ceremony and Sound Bath, Not a Swim With Extra Steps

The experience moves your group between two private cenotes, and the middle of it is built around two rituals most people have never combined before. First comes the cacao ceremony, a slower, more intentional way to start than jumping straight into water. Then everyone settles into floating hammocks right in the cenote itself for a guided sound healing session, with crystal bowls and gongs creating the kind of resonance that is genuinely hard to replicate outside of water. Floating while that sound moves through you is the part people remember longest, more than any photo from the trip.

A Jungle Swim Between Two Cenotes

After the sound bath, the group takes a scenic swim through the jungle to reach the second cenote, refreshments in hand for the walk between. It is the kind of transition that would feel like a hike anywhere else and feels like part of the ceremony here, cool jungle air, the sound of birds instead of a tour guide's script, and clear water waiting on the other side. Copalli built the route specifically so the two cenotes function as one continuous experience instead of two separate stops.

Closing Massages for Every Guest

The last piece is what sets this apart from almost anything else on a Tulum itinerary: an individual closing massage for each person in the group, not an add-on you have to book separately. After the cacao, the sound bath and the swim, guests get worked on one by one before the group heads back. It turns a half day activity into something that actually leaves people relaxed rather than wiped out, which matters if there is a dinner reservation or another event later that night.

Built for Groups of Four to Fourteen

Copalli runs this for groups between 4 and 14 guests over a 3.5 hour window, which makes it a natural fit for bachelorette parties, milestone birthdays, or a family group looking for one shared afternoon that is not another beach day. Transport to and from the first cenote is included, so nobody has to coordinate cars or coordinate splitting off from the group. It is also a good preview of what Copalli does outside of this one experience. If a group falls in love with the way they run a cenote ceremony, that same team is who you would call for a sunrise proposal, a celebratory dinner under the stars, or a private chef back at the villa once the group is done floating.
