How It Started
Port & Proper is built around a very specific person: Parker, a third-generation Newport Beach local and licensed merchant mariner who spent years working on large vessels internationally. Long stretches at sea. The kind of career that builds deep expertise and costs you time at home.
When he and his wife welcomed their daughter in 2024, the goal became clear — build something that kept him connected to the water while keeping him home. What they created in the process filled a gap neither of them had fully articulated before they saw it.
Newport Harbor already had traditional yacht clubs — beautiful and storied, but inaccessible to most people without boat ownership or significant membership fees. It also had plenty of casual charters — fun enough, but often crowded, transactional, and forgettable. There was nothing in between. Nothing that felt refined and welcoming at the same time, elegant without being exclusive, personal without being precious.
That space became Port & Proper: a boutique charter experience inspired by classic yacht club culture and built for a generation that values both.
