Why this isn't your average Charleston sail

The idea came from someone who'd already spent years working on the water — six years in the Navy, time as a wellness coach and event planner with a veteran-focused surf therapy nonprofit, stretches spent scuba diving and restoring oyster reefs around the Lowcountry. Along the way came a 200-hour yoga teacher certification and a U.S. Coast Guard captain's license, and eventually a simple observation: every time a boat full of people slowed down and got quiet on the water, something in them visibly softened. Charleston had plenty of sailing charters. It didn't have one built around that shift. Soothe Sailing, a woman- and veteran-owned company launched in 2024, was built to fill that gap, and it remains the only sailing experience in the city designed entirely around mental wellness rather than entertainment.

Guests notice the difference immediately. One group that came aboard for a private retreat described it as one of the most serene and calming experiences they'd had in a long time, saying they felt lighter and more grounded by the time they stepped off the boat — a response that shows up again and again across the company's five-star rating from more than thirty reviews.

What actually happens on board

Each sail runs about two and a half hours and follows a loose but intentional arc: guided breathwork to settle everyone in, meditation and stretches of silent reflection while underway, and eventually space for group conversation once the quiet has done its work. There's no itinerary to rush through and no music competing for attention — the boat's own movement functions as the anchor point whenever a mind starts to wander. Healthy snacks, tea, infused water, and journals are provided throughout, and the whole experience is capped at a small group size, which keeps it intimate rather than performative. It's less a boat tour and more a therapy session that happens to have a sail attached.

Built for private groups, not big parties

This isn't a stop-and-go excursion for a dozen people in matching sashes. Soothe Sailing books private retreats for small groups — up to six guests per sail — which makes it a strong fit for a bachelorette weekend that wants one slower morning built in, a girls' trip looking for a reset, or a corporate offsite that actually wants to offsite. Pricing runs from $875 per party or $155 per person for the 2.5-hour retreat, with the option to build a deeper, multi-sail wellness package for groups that want to keep coming back. Everything meets out of Charleston Harbor, with Ravenel Bridge views and open water doing most of the scenery work while the guided practice does the rest.

Book on Batch

If your group's Charleston itinerary is already stacked with bar crawls and dinner reservations, this is the one booking that gives everyone room to actually exhale before diving back in.
